Post Wave Publishing UK is a newly established independent publishing company, focused on its imprint, Post Wave Children’s Books. It is owned by Post Wave Publishing China, one of the leading privately-owned publishers in China.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative designer, with a passion for children’s books, design and illustration.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a few years of experience working in a design department and be looking to take the next step in their career.
You will have a willingness to work across a range of projects – no two days will be the same. You’ll collaborate closely with our Design Director, producing design concepts for illustrated non-fiction, picture books and novelty titles for ages 0 to 12 years that are both visually stunning and highly commercial.
Beside working on book projects, you will also help with the day-to-day support of design work and design admin across the business. You will design marketing and publicity materials across our social channels and provide creative support for our Sales and Marketing teams.
You will have a good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud – InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat –and have a passion for great design and children’s books, in particular.
We are a small team and as such the ability to communicate effectively and work nimbly is essential.
Responsibilities would include:
- Conceiving and implementing design concepts for books and covers that are visually exciting, inclusive and accessible under the Design Director’s guidance
- Working closely with Editorial to make books that are original, engaging and commercial
- Designing and preparing pitches, presentations and marketing materials across the business
- Keeping ahead of the latest design and visual trends in children’s publishing
Requirements:
- A strong portfolio showcasing your skills in layout design and typography
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat is essential
- A working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams would be beneficial
- Some knowledge of print processes and pre-press for publishing would be beneficial
- Some knowledge of photography
- Good organisation skills with the ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
