At Bookmark Reading Charity, we have a simple vision: we want every child to read. We are seeking a flexible, experienced, and dynamic Designer to join our creative Marketing Team.
In this role, you will be at the heart of bringing our mission to life visually, helping shape the charity’s brand identity, and creating engaging designs through various platforms. The ideal candidate will have a diverse skill set across branding, illustration, print, digital media, social media, and animation.
A confident, versatile designer, you’ll collaborate closely with the marketing team to produce innovative and impactful creative assets that elevate our message and contribute to our strategic goals. This is an exciting opportunity to use your design expertise to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and contribute to the growth of our charity’s profile.
Role Description:
- Designing print collateral for the charity’s different audiences (prospective volunteers, volunteers, schools, donors)
- Collaborating with the marketing team to conceive and create content for campaigns (across multiple channels)
- Participating in team brainstorms about innovative creative solutions
- Producing key report documents: impact, annual and some general report templates
- Producing collateral for fundraising events e.g. invites, programmes
- Support the production of video content, including liaising with videographers
- Supporting with the management of the Bookmark image library, including the commissioning of new photography
- Creating slide deck templates for colleagues to adopt
- Supporting with the production of The Story Corner, Bookmark’s magazine for children
- Building on, adhering to and acting as brand guardian for Bookmark’s brand guidelines
- Managing and developing the organisation system of our creative asset library
Person Specification:
Experience:
- A BA-level qualification in design or equivalent work experience
- Proven ability to lead design projects or contribute to larger initiatives (e.g., overseeing the design of a campaign or event)
- A portfolio of print and digital design work that demonstrates a wide range of creative assets (branding, marketing materials, digital content such as email and social assets)
- Skilled in working within and maintaining brand guidelines to ensure consistency and cohesion across all design touchpoints
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with teams and clients to understand design needs and deliver solutions that align with brand identity
- Proficient in creating digital design assets, including web and social media graphics, digital ads, email templates, and more
- Expertise in designing assets for multiple digital platforms, ensuring visual consistency and effectiveness across desktop, mobile, and tablet
- Ability to create print-ready artwork and knowledge of print processes, from initial concept to final production
- Familiarity with working alongside external vendors, such as videographers, photographers, and printers, to ensure the highest standards of production
- Knowledge of creating animated assets, HTML5, UNI, and/or UX (desirable)
- Basic film editing skills, ideally with Adobe Premiere (desirable)
- Experience with brand audits and/or brand evolution (desirable)

- Creative flair and a commitment to creating original, inspiring, and impactful design assets
- Creative problem-solver who has the ability to adapt to various design challenges and provide creative solutions while maintaining brand integrity
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other design software
- Attention to detail in all design work, with a focus on consistency, accuracy, and ensuring high-quality outputs across various mediums
- Knowledge of print processes and a solid understanding of file preparation for print production
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to new design challenges and feedback
- Proactive approach to design, with a willingness to stay updated on industry trends and best practices
- Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising tasks and managing workloads effectively
- Collaborative mindset: Comfortable working closely with internal teams, such as fundraising, volunteer communications, and the schools team, to deliver cohesive design solutions
- Ability to create custom illustrations (desirable)
- Familiarity with design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, or similar (desirable, not essential)
- Understanding of motion graphics experience in video and animation elements (desirable – Adobe After Effects, for example)
